Find a personal page - nowadays it can be a profile - of someone you know (a friend, a fellow student, a teacher, a writer, or other). What particular aspects of identity are they trying to communicate? Compare how that person presents him or herself online and offline. Do you notice any differences? Why do you see these differences?
Alternatively, try finding a web site for an organization you know - what kind of image does that organization try to project?
